You’re thinking of a wedding photo booth rental. You’re going in the right direction. Photo booths are an excellent addition to weddings. We may be biased, but we believe they serve a vital purpose. The traditional photographer is valuable, but they’re actually there for the bride and the groom. If guests want their photos on the fridge, it’s their decision.
You don’t necessarily need to rent a photobooth, but if you’d like to provide your guests with a lasting memento and entertain them in a unique way, then it’s worth it.
You don’t need to panic if you would like to hire a photo booth for your wedding but feel like a forgetful groom. This guide will be your trusted sidekick.
We will explore the advantages of having a wedding photo booth. We will also discuss how to choose the best one, the costs involved, and what questions to ask the vendors (other than if they accept cake as payment). Last but not least, we’ll provide you with some tips on how to make the best out of your photo booth. You’ll learn how to select a photobooth that will fit your wedding like a glove, or perhaps even a tiara.
Why Choose a Photo Booth for Your Wedding?
Photo booths are much more than a source of entertainment–they’re wedding game-changers. Here’s why:
1. Entertainment for Guests
Photo booths are interactive and entertaining. Guests can stop by the photo booth while waiting for dinner or between dances. They can strike a pose and take some photos to post on social media.
2. Photo Booths Are for Everyone, Not Just Couples
Wedding photographers and photobooths have two different functions and complement each other. The photographer will focus on the couple and other important events. A photo booth is available to capture the fun moments from all of your guests.
The photo booth is also a good way for the couple to get a lot of photos taken with their guests. Everyone gets a copy to take home.
3. Memorable Keepsakes
Every guest will leave with a tangible memento of your wedding – a photo strip or a digital snapshot that they can look back at and say “Damn! That was a great wedding”. The majority of photo booth companies offer online galleries that conveniently compile all the photos. Some companies offer physical scrapbooks, which are often available at an extra cost, where guests can add photos and personal messages.
4. Unlimited Customization Options
Photo booths let you reflect the unique feel of your wedding. From themed props and backdrops to customized backdrops. You can choose to match your booth design with the theme of your wedding. It could be a vintage feel, a black tie event or even a carnival-themed event.
5. Breaking the Ice
If you want to invite us to your wedding, please let us know. Photo booths are a great way to get everyone involved. Everyone can enjoy the fun and laughter without feeling under pressure. The photo booths encourage introverted or shy guests to participate in the fun and meet new friends. The pre-photobooth and post-photobooth vibes are completely different.
The Right Wedding Photo Booth Rentals for Your Wedding
Consider these two factors before committing to a wedding photo booth rental of a photo booth for your wedding to ensure that it is the right fit.
1. How Much Does Wedding Photo Booth Rentals Cost
Renting a photobooth for a wedding can cost anywhere from $600-$2,000+. Costs will vary based on the type and reputation of the photo booth. In the majority of cases, $1,100 to $1,500 is enough for a high-quality photo booth that can be rented for 3-4 hours.
2. Types of Photo Booth
You have a variety of photo booths to choose from. The decision, however, comes down to your preferences, the amount of space, whether your wedding will be held indoors or outdoors, and your budget.
- Open Air Booths: Perfect for groups and venues of any size since they don’t take up much space.
- Glam Booth: A Specific type of open-air photo booth, also known as Black and white photo booths. These booths have a black-and white filter and a “Glam”, which enhances the smoothness of skin.
- Selfie stations: A more affordable alternative to a DSLR or Mirrorless, this open-air booth is designed with an iPad instead of a DSLR camera. It’s ideal for taking fun Boomerangs or photos.
- Closed Booths: This is the traditional photo booth that you’d find in a bar. They offer guests privacy to pose creatively and possibly make out.
- 360° Booths: A fun, interactive experience which captures videos of your guests. These booths require a bigger space.
- Airstream Booths – Unique retro booths for outdoor events with plenty of space.
We personally recommend that for most weddings, you use an open-air photobooth equipped with a high-quality camera (like a Canon or Nikon) and prints. Firefly Photo Booth Rental is a popular choice for weddings.
These types of open-air booths will give you the best quality images and prints. It’s also easy to fit a lot of people in for large group photos. Look for photo booths with DSLR or Mirrorless camera models when researching vendors. It is also fine if they mention Canon or Nikon. They may also be called “Printer Booths” or “Portrait Booths”.
Wedding Photo Booth Logistics
Two logistical elements are crucial to having a smooth wedding photo booth rental experience. 1) When and where the photo booth will be in use. Your photo booth provider will be able to guide you, and remove the guesswork. Here’s what to know.
When is the best time to have your wedding photo booth take photos?
You should have your photo booth active at two important times during the wedding. During Cocktail Hour or Dancing.
Cocktail Hour could be called social lubricant. When people start to relax, meet people and have conversations, it is the perfect time for the photo booth. Photo booths are a huge hit during the final hours of a wedding when everyone is on the dancefloor. By this time, most people have had a few drinks and are eager to take some pictures.
You may think that this is a very long time for a wedding photo booth. This might make you feel $$$$. I get it. This is the trick: “Idle Time”.
It’s important to ask about idle time. Not all photo booth companies offer it, but you should inquire. Idle Time is when the photo booth stops taking pictures for a set amount of time. Idle Time costs around half as much.
To ensure that guests have ample time to take pictures and to save the client as much money, we recommend following this timeline for weddings:
- Set up a photo booth at least 1 hour before guests arrive
- Photo Booth in idle mode at the ceremony
- Photo Booth is active during Cocktail Hour
- Photo Booth will be in idle mode for dinner, speeches, and first dances
- Photo Booth is activefor the rest of the evening
This schedule will save you up to $400 on photo booth rentals.
Where to Place Your Wedding Photo Booth
The location of your photo booth will make a difference in whether you get 400 or 50 photos. The public won’t search for a photo booth that they are unaware of. The photo booth must be visible. Just say no if your planner or venue coordinator suggests a backroom or something similar.
Your wedding photo booth must be located in proximity to the dance floor and bar. This is the most visited area of a wedding, and it is logical to put your photo booth next to the dance floor or bar.
The photo booth companies will have specific requirements. Double-check with the venue coordinator or planner to make sure that there is a sufficiently large area adjacent to the dance floor or the bar, preferably at least 8 feet by 8 feet, and a power outlet within a 10-20 feet distance. Keep in mind that people usually form long lines for the photobooth. There should be plenty of space to move the queue.

How to Rent a Wedding Photo Booth
Follow these steps to hire a photo booth for your wedding:
Step 1: Research Vendors
Start by searching for “photobooth rental [city] online. Avoid directories like The Knot, where photo booth companies have to pay for their listings. The higher they rank, the more they have to pay. This is not an accurate measure of a business’s quality, but rather how much it can spend.
If you come across some interesting companies, check out their Instagrams and Google reviews. If you can’t find any reviews, or their photos aren’t good, run! Many new companies are using stock images as a way to promote their services. They have little experience. These people are not worth your time.
Step 2:Compare packages
The price of a photo booth can also differ according to the features, add-ons, and service hours. The average price of a wedding photo booth can range from $600-$2,000+. It’s best for you to set a budget and then rank the features that you like the most.
Some photo booths may also have hidden upsells that include basic features that are already included in other companies’ prices. Printing photos and different types of photo capture, i.e., some companies charge extra for GIFs and early setup.
The following are other features and keywords that you should consider:
Unlimited prints
Some companies charge an extra fee for printing, while others include the cost in the price. Other companies have a fixed price for 100 print,s and any prints above that are charged extra.
Photo Capture Types
GIFs, Boomerangs, Slowmo, Video, Photo, etc. All of these are possible photo capture formats that certain photo booths may be able to capture. Ask your vendor if a particular format is available.
Filters
Black and white as well as additional filters can be added to most photo booths at an extra cost.
Digital sharing
Most photo booths have the capability to send photos via text message, email, or AirDrop to guests. However, it is worth checking. This is a feature that’s almost always included in the rental.
Online gallery
The majority of companies offer an online photo gallery. Some companies charge an extra fee for this service, which we consider to be a scam.
Props
This is a very important issue. Some companies have very tacky props. Others don’t even offer them. And others, like us, provide simple, trendy props. You can look at previous event photos to see what type of props you have or whether you want them at all.
Onsite Attendant
There are photo booths which are “drop-off booths”, where an attendant is not required. Drop-off booths are iPad booths that use the iPad’s camera instead of a professional camera. All the other photo booths will probably have an attendant who will remain by the booth throughout the night. An attendant is typically part of the price, but it’s always wise to confirm.
Setup
It is important to know when the companies will arrive to start setting up, for how long, and at what time they will tear down. You don’t want to hear a photobooth being set up at your wedding ceremony. Make sure you know this information. Most companies can usually set up in 60-90 minutes, and take down within 30 minutes.
Travel fees
If you are planning a wedding at a location that is more than 30 miles from a major metropolitan area, it may be necessary to pay for supplemental travel costs. The fee is usually charged per mile round trip, anywhere between $0.50 and $2.00.
Step 3: Request Availability
Check the availability of the company ASAP if you have found a reputable company and selected the photo booth that you desire. You should inquire as soon as possible about the availability of popular photo booth providers. Booking a photoboot at least six months in advance of your wedding is recommended. Book at least 3 months in advance.
Step 4: Check what’s included
You will receive an invoice after you have confirmed availability and inquired with your provider. Check everything to make sure that there aren’t any hidden costs for items such as setup, teardown, or an attendant. Transparent pricing will help you avoid hidden costs.
Step 5: Verify a Few Important Details
Here are some important questions you should ask before signing a contract with your photo booth provider.
Insurance: Ensure the vendor is insured in case there are any mishaps. You may be asked by your venue to have the vendor provide a Certificate of Insurance (COI) that names them as additional insured. Any legitimate photo booth provider should have no problem with this.
Setup time: Confirm the length of time that vendors need to set up and whether this fits into your wedding schedule.
Power Requirements: Be aware of the power requirements for your booth, especially if it is located outdoors or in a remote area.
Check if there is a plan B in place in the event of technical problems during the event. This may be noted in the contract, so make sure to read it thoroughly.
Step 6: Pay the deposit and sign a contract
Sign your rental agreement once you are happy with the details. Secure your booking by paying a deposit with your chosen vendor. You’re ready to go after that! As your date approaches, you may need to take a few more steps. For example, go over the designs of your photo templates. But that’s all fun. Now that the stressful, hard work is done, you can relax.
Add-ons and Customizations for Photo Booths
You can customize your photo booth with a few add-ons. These options are not available from every vendor of photo booths. These are the most important things to consider:
Backdrops
It is important that the backdrop of your photobooth looks great. The backdrop sets the tone for your wedding and serves as decor. Our recommended backdrops are always a classic White or Black. You can also get a Flower Wall, Hedge Wall, or even a neon sign that says your last name if you are willing to pay an extra $150-$400.
Props
This was mentioned earlier, but it is worth repeating. Props are easily tacky. We’d recommend that if you’re planning a black-tie wedding, you tell your vendor you don’t need any props, or maybe some trendy glasses, some disco ball,s and possibly some high-quality signs. You can choose to have some tacky photo props. We recommend that you know what you’re looking for and check with your vendor to ensure they are aligned.
Photo Templates
The photo templates that come with each print are called the Photo Templates. Both the layout (ex. You can customize both the layout (ex. Here are some of our favorites that we use. However, it ultimately comes down to your personal taste.
You should be able to visualize the colors, fonts, and other design elements before you start designing the template. This will be the case at your wedding. Send your photo booth vendor a Pinterest board, or your wedding invitations if you want them to stay in line with your vision.
Photo Albums
Most photo booths provide you with a digital gallery of all the photos taken that evening. You can get a customized engraved photo book if you love physical photo albums. It will cost an additional $100 to $200. Guests can add extra copies of photos to your book, and even leave a message.
Tap to start the screen
The “Tap to Start Screen” will be present in the photo booth, depending on the model you select. This screen can easily be customized. We recommend incorporating your engagement photos or a video loop from your engagement shoot. Simple static designs on brand with your wedding can also be used.
What to ask your photo booth rental provider
Here are some questions to ask your provider before you choose a photo booth:
- What type of camera comes with your photo booth?
- How can I see some examples of the photos that you produce?
- Do you have props available? What are your props?
- Do the backdrops come with the photos, or are they extra?
- What are some examples of your photo templates that you have created?
- Offer you idle hours for a reduced rate?
- Will there be an attendant at the event to assist?
- What happens if there is a malfunction in the booth during the wedding?
- Travel fees are included in the cost?
- How many people will fit in a booth?
- What is the best way for guests to receive their photos (text message or online gallery)?
- Do you have any other charges that we should be aware of (travel fees, overtime and so on?
- Can I view all my photos online? Have these photos been edited?
- Are you insured?
- Do you have any previous experience at my venue?
These answers will help you feel more secure and know what to expect. You should be able to answer all of these questions by yourself, but if not, you need to email the provider and ask. You want your wedding to be perfect.
